Concept
Located in southern Karuizawa, alongside the Minami Course of 72 Golf,
this site revealed itself as a quiet yet luminous place,
where light and wind shift delicately throughout the year.
At FEEL℃ VILLA Minami-Karuizawa,
this very sense of “brightness” is placed at the center of the home.
The gradation of trees, particles of light, the wind passing by the windows —
to receive these natural presences as they are,
the openings and circulation were designed with utmost simplicity.
By eliminating excessive expression and carefully layering only what is essential,
the house becomes a place where the rhythm of time slowly returns.
The architecture does not interrupt the landscape,
yet remains a presence that quietly accompanies it.
As what FEEL℃ considers the “minimum unit of living in Karuizawa,”
this residence takes form.
Story
The beginning came when the architect stood on this land
and remained still for a while, simply listening.
The movement of clouds, the calls of birds, the moisture beneath one’s feet,
the texture of grass spreading like a skirt.
More than what could be seen,
it was the intangible information that spoke most clearly
of the richness of this place.
How should such an experience be translated into architecture?
The answer that emerged was not to assert,
but simply “to adjust.”
The direction of views from the interior,
the continuity between terrace and greenery,
the way morning light enters and evening shadows fall.
Each element was carefully calibrated,
so that the inherent comfort of this place
could flow naturally into the home itself.
This is the first completed form
of FEEL℃’s vision of architecture
that breathes together with the landscape.
